There are many more art installations, art projects, scavenger hunts, special events, performances, even yoga classes that are happening around uptown during the 17-day festival. Most street festivals only last a weekend, but Charlotte SHOUT! Is stretched over 17 days from March 31-April 16, with live music happening nearly every day at three outdoor stages around uptown, and funky pop-up art installations in various areas all within walking distance. The music programming at the festival is sponsored by Ally and includes many events geared toward all ages.

You’ll find music at the Ally Main Stage at First Ward Park, Victoria Yards, Pianodrome, Cafe 400 at 400 S Tryon Street, and more. These installations were brought to life by talented artists, including Liz Miller, Reuben Bloom, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Dan Borelli, Thang Dao, Amanda Moody, Beth Yarnelle Edwards, and many others.
The installations and activities along South Tryon Street are especially family-friendly. Take a walk down South Tryon Street and you'll encounter a mini-golf coursewith replicas of some of Charlotte's famous landmarks. Farther down the street, there are a dozen colorful spinning tops made of metal and rope, and a row ofmusical, light-up seesaws. There will also be historical reenactors giving tours of two historic cemeteries in uptown on the first Saturday of the festival, and arcade games built from scratch on display at the Charlotte SHOUT! Each game was designed by the local nonprofit game organization Potions and Pixels, and decorated by a local artist.
With nearly 200 installations, performances, events, and activations in tow, the multi-week festival takes over uptown once again April 1-17. It’s a long-awaited return for Charlotte Shout! But that’s why its charge, to showcase our community’s creativity, innovation, diversity, and resilience, is so important in 2022.It does just that with what organizers call its “pillars”—art, food, music, and ideas. Highlights from its ever-updated and expanding schedule of activities hint at the massive scope of this year’s festival. Nearly all of the events are outdoors, free, and open to the public without tickets.

This year's festival features an incredible array of art installations that are sure to capture your imagination. One of the standout features is the Roaming Gnomes, which are spread all over Uptown, each with its own personality and theme. The festival is described as an all ages feast for the sense, serving up soulful music, tantalizing food, mind-blowing images, playful installations, inspiring performances, and bold ideas. Officials say the festival will bring internationally and locally acclaimed artists, dancers, musicians, poets, storytellers, photographers, chefs, and thought leaders together. In terms of dining, one marquee event is the The Charlotte StrEATs Festival, celebrating chefs from neighborhoods across the city, curated by Unpretentious Palate.
Between April 8-10, that component has panel discussions, civic reflection conversations, a poetry open mic event, story workshops, and more. Easter eggs — Local artists have decorated 13 giant Easter eggs scattered around The Green. Each artist has also written an explanation of their design in the link above. Light up neurons — This is your brain on art. See a giant light-up sculpture of brain neurons in front of the NASCAR Hall of Fame created by the international art studio Amigo & Amigo.
Hang out, talk with creatives, support local art, and be inspired. Double Vision is an installation offering viewers a fun way to experience Charlotte’s skyline and its surroundings. The concept consists of 12 oversized kaleidoscopes in six designs to provide unique perspectives of the cityscape day and night.
This free event features a curated artisan market with culinary vendors, cooking demonstrations, food trucks, music and more. Play nine holes of mini golf with obstacles created by local artists from Upcycle Arts and Charlotte Is Creative. Celebrate Charlotte’s vibrant arts and culture scene during this multi-day festival. The “Chair Monster” sculpture was created by local architect and artist, David Furman and fabricated by ASCM Design + Build.
“Shout was very controlled and they were very timely on their schedule so at 10 o’clock the music shut down so it wasn’t a problem at all,” shared Dyer. Charlotte Shout organizers are encouraging guests to make their own adventure out of the sights, sounds, and experiences it has to offer. “This is the busiest time ever right now. When I say we have ticket lines down to the floor – I mean at 6 we’re just getting through, but we’re pushing. Charlotte is a city chock-full of talent, and SHOUT! Is an opportunity for artists to get their moment in the sun. For the next two weeks, thousands of people will gather in First Ward Park to enjoy good music, good times, and good food. We also have this beautiful exhibit that is taking place over at Old Settler's Cemetery. I can't really describe it, but it is amazing. In total, organizers say there are more than 200 things to do, see and experience in uptown during the festival.
